Despite the fact that Vero has been up and running for 3 years, only now is it becoming one of the hottest apps on the market, all thanks to a big investment in marketing. Is this the revolution of social networks? Let’s take a look at what it’s all about.
A new, free application, available on iOS and Android, which is revolutionising the world of social networks and which has hit one million users in a matter of months. Some even say it’s the new Facebook or Instagram.
Its name comes from the Italian word for truth, “vero”, which helps reinforce the idea that this is a truly social network. With this app, users have more control over the content they post, as well as a greater sense of authenticity.
One of the app’s best features is that “there are no algorithms and no data mining, ever”, as stated on their website.
We’ve heard many things about the founder of Vero, and not all of it is necessarily good; many people have their suspicions regarding what exactly it is that he’s hiding behind his image.
His name is Ayman Hariri, multimillionaire and son of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister, Rafic Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005. Not only have we heard various rumours about corruption, but he’s also rumoured to have a close friendship with Vladimir Putin.
These are, however, nothing more than suspicions and rumours.
Primarily because Instagram, by altering their algorithm, gives instagrammers’ posts lower visibility, whereas with Vero, posts are displayed in chronological order and in a completely organic way.
Vero also works to restrict ads upon user request. In other words, when creating an account, the user has the option to choose what they wish to see in their feed, as well as segmenting followers and categorising them as “acquaintances”, “friends” or “close friends” and selecting who gets to see their content.
This is first question you’ll ask yourself when downloading the app. But, don’t worry; it’s both easy and intuitive. Here are the instructions on how to do so, as provided by Vero:
Thanks to Vero, we can add links to posts, integrate films, music and books into our publications, as well as making purchases through the application.
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again. The option of segmenting your followers into groups means you can share posts with specific people, meaning you can privatise content in a more elegant way by avoiding unwanted friend requests and not appearing in certain users’ searches, as well as organising posts by topic and without the nuisance of seeing any commercial ads.
However, despite the many advantages this app has to offer, there are also some obvious weak points: unless your friends are early adopters, it’s likely that they haven’t downloaded the app, and there are a few technical issues, due to the novelty of the app. But these issues can be solved rather easily; by trusting in this new application and getting your friends on board!
